Big shoes to fill

This little boy was insistent on wearing his papa's shoes the other day.

He even wanted to walk in them but it wasn't working out so well...

Happy 30th Birthday to my wonderful husband!!!

John will be celebrating in class tonight, armed with chocolate cupcakes with rainbow chip frosting.  We celebrated early with his choice of supper (rachels & fries), a half an hour present opening session, and of course, a birthday Canadian martini.

Thank you for all you do for our family, John.  We're so blessed to have such a hard working & dedicated (& quite often goofy) husband & father.  Thirty is the new twenty-five, right?  So instead of feeling "old" today, I hope you're able to look back on the last thirty years with a sense of pride & accomplishment.  Thirty is just the tip of the iceberg...  Hoping today & the rest of your thirties are fun & fulfilling!

It's Rivalry Weekend!

Colin's practicing up to participate in this weekend some 18 years from now, only with a slightly larger stick & real North Dakota sweater.

Snowbaby

Maybe this post should've been titled "Snowtoddler".  I forget that he's much more of a toddler these days than a baby! 

We got another couple inches of snow during the day yesterday so Colin & I set out to shovel the sidewalk when we got home.  He has really started to love the cold & snow except when he falls down.  Then it's like Randy in A Christmas Story, crying & exclaiming, "I can't get up!".  Colin helped shovel by the front step though & was rewarded with a quick sled ride down the driveway & street.     

We did have to stop & snap a quick photo by the MOUND of snow along the driveway though.  By the looks of this, how can it not flood this spring?!

Loungin'

Our whirlwind of a weekend was highlighted with a quick, spur-of-the-moment trip to the Cities/IKEA/Albertville on Saturday.  Nothing like spending 6 1/2 hours in the car & 4 hours out of it!  Colin had fun looking at all of the people & furniture displays at IKEA.  Even though he didn't get to play in the playroom (complete MOM FAIL. Who knew you needed to be potty trained to play there?!), he did get his own chair just like mom & dad's.

We took the day off from church on Sunday & lounged in the morning, taking time to watch The Mickey Mouse Clubhouse & do the hot dog dance.  What made the day even better was new (homemade!) fleece comfy pants from Auntie Elizabeth.  Adorable, right?

Even though we had the joy of experiencing Colin's first public tantrum & hardly had time to sit down & relax all weekend, we're ready to face another week full of meetings, class, reading homework, & papers.  Happy Monday!

Those pesky canines are FINALLY breaking through Colin's top gums.  Look at that sharp point!

New Year's Blizzard - 2010

The winter weather over New Year's weekend forced us inside to spend our days building block towers, reading books, coloring, and riding around the living room in the coupe.  John & I both got off work early on Thursday & daycare closed a couple hours early.   

This is the view out the back patio door Friday (New Year's Eve) morning.

When all was said & done we got around 9-10" but the 40 mph winds were what did us in.  Other than John being exhausted from snowblowing so much, I think we all enjoyed greeting the new year snowed in together.
