Ah, man!

The attention span at 21 months old

John played in a softball tournament in DL last weekend so Colin & I were on our own.  Since it was so hot outside, we rediscovered old toys & even got creative with some household items.

The Leap Frog table was again a hit!  But now it's used for dance parties & showing us all that he's learning.  Here he said, "Momma, circle." & was drawing it in the air...

& then showed me where the circle was.  :)

The boy is like his momma & loves him a pickle, so we had one while waiting for lunch on Saturday.

After a good, long nap it was back to exploring things that really aren't toys.  This box & laundry basket provided entertainment long enough for me to get a double recipe of pico made.

It's so fun to watch this kid's mind work. For a while, the bottom of the laundry basket was a race track for the balls & they would go around & around & around... Soon after, it was a stage as he danced to "If You're Happy & You Know It" & "Down By the Bay".  He might just be picking up his mother's rhythm after all. :)

 

Summer fun

An strong emphasis should be placed on SUMMER.  We're on our 4th day of 90+ degrees (or near) and ridiculous humidity.  However, we decided to brave it & take a stroll through the Street Fair on Friday night.

After sharing a corn dog & fry bread taco, we each had our own ear of roasted sweet corn.  Does it look like it was toddler-approved?

The kid was so messy that when he went in for the so-tired-because-it's-past-bathtime eye rub, he got butter and salt in his eye.  That made for a few good squeals while attempting to dodge the pedestrian traffic!

We finished up with a walk through Island Park & it was time to head home (to A/C!). 

I'd say it was worth the sweaty, sticky clothes and $20 spent on greasy food to have a fun evening out with my boys.

 

Independence

Someone has been gaining more independence lately & wants to do things by himself & HIS WAY.

Catching up

I'm finally catching up from the busy 4th of July weekend.  I know of few of you (ahem, Elizabeth) were wondering if the blog was broken. :)  

We took off early for the holiday and drove up to Buffalo Point on Lake of the Woods in Canada.  Colin conked out for a short nap and it helped make the long drive a little quicker.   

I love that his lips are this pouty when he sleeps.

We just relaxed and soaked up the sun all weekend.  Unfortunately for Colin, he was stuck with the women the while the guys fished.  I don't think he minded too much.  Here are some highlights, including a first boat ride.

   

On the actual 4th we again spent time in the sun and went to the pool with the Zimney's.  We all enjoyed (or maybe lived through) a fabulous supper, complete with strawberry shortcake. What a great way to spend a day off from work!



What we've been up to

Other than splashing in the water table, we've been spending a lot of time outside enjoying the summer weather. 

Since we moved into our house 6+ years ago, we've had no idea what this "sandbox" between the house and garage is.  So we decided to use it for just that - a sandbox.

The sand was fascinating

We've been relaxing after long outings to the park.



We've also been practicing our rhythm



& our driving skills.
